Our Baroque alto recorder based on the model from the Museum of Music History in Copenhagen by Jacob Denner. Feather-light response, noble tone, outstanding dynamics, excellent for solo playing. Made from grenadilla, with Baroque fingering and tuned to the concert pitch a1 = 442 Hz. Tenon joints with silk thread winding. A first-class choice for all experts who are intensively involved with virtuoso Baroque music.

The model for our Denner series was the old recorder by Jacob Denner (Nuremberg, 1681–1735) from the Music History Museum in Copenhagen. Many recorder makers consider it to be the finest of Jacob Denner's  instruments existing today.

Our Denner impresses with its slender, elegant tone, high brilliance and balanced timbre. Its distinct solo character is unmistakable. Outstanding sound characteristics, effortless response and the ability of this first-class instrument to offer a vast potential for articulation even at high speeds are ideal prerequisites for playing virtuoso music where tempo and agility are important, such as the recorder works of Georg Philipp Telemann. The alto recorders in our Denner series leave nothing to chance, even when it comes to the most demanding requirements.

Available in boxwood and grenadilla and in the pitches A1 = 415 Hz or A1 = 442 Hz for different musical purposes. Our Denner series offers excellent instruments of outstanding manufacturing quality, with fine details and high-quality features included in the scope of delivery.

Hardness scale

Our wood hardness scale allows you to compare the hardness of the wood used for this instrument with the hardness of other woods in our range. The sound of a recorder is influenced by many material properties. The hardness of the wood is a suitable indicator of certain sound characteristics: softer woods (hardness level 1-2) tend to produce a warm and fundamental tone that blends well in an ensemble, while harder woods (hardness level 4-5) lead to a bright and resonant tone, ideal for solo playing. Those who play both, in ensembles and solo, will find suitable all-rounders in the medium-hard range (hardness level 3).

Hardness level 5 - hard wood

The grenadilla wood (dalbergia melanoxylon) used for this instrument comes from Central and East Africa. It is very hard and dense, producing a brilliant and resonant sound. This type of wood is the hardest wood in our range.
